Cynthia Lubin CPA, MBA

Cynthia Lubin, CPA began her journey in accounting 7 years ago when she left her job as a personal banker to become an accountant in order to help individuals and small businesses, particularly in disadvantaged areas build wealth. Upon graduating with her Master in Business Administration with a concentration in ProfessionalAccounting at Rutgers University in 2011, Cynthia has since gone on to obtain her CPA, work for a Big 4 Accounting firm, a Fortune 100 Financial Services Company and in 2014 decided to pursue her original plan of helping to build wealth when she began her own practice, C. Lubin CPA LLC where she offerstax, bookkeeping and financial planning services. Cynthia was introduced to NABA Northern NJ while pursuing her MBA and immediately fell in love with the organization. She served as Treasurer of the Rutgers Newark student chapter and later went on to serve as Secretary, Director of Programming and now chapter President of the professional chapter. In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys spending time with her friends and family, attending live music performances and her new found hobby of landscaping.


Secretary Karen Young, MBA

Karen Young, MBA

Karen Young is an Associate Manager at Prudential in Newark, New Jersey and has worked there since 1999. In this capacity, she is responsible for providing financial reporting, analysis, forecasting, budgeting and communicating risks and opportunities for Prudential’s Third Party Distribution. Prior to joining Prudential she held positions of increasing responsibility in the utility industry for 13 years. Karen has been a member of the Northern New Jersey chapter of NABA NNJ since 2014, serving as Secretary of the NABA NNJ since 2015. Karen has also participated in the National Urban League’s Black Executive Exchange Program as a ‘Visiting Professor’ for 25 years, lecturing to college students about her experiences in the workplace. She is also active in other volunteer opportunities inside and outside of Prudential. Karen earned a B.B.A. in Accounting Information Systems from Pace University in New York City, and she earned her MBA in Business Management from Excelsior College in Albany, New York. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Karen lives in New Jersey with her husband, two daughters and their dog Weezy.

Treasurer, SMS Director Derkyl Paton M.S.

Derkyl Paton was first introduced to NABA in 2009  at Rutgers University and from that moment he continued with NABA. He obtained his undergraduate and graduate degree at Rutgers University notably obtaining his Master of Financial Accounting. After his time at Rutgers Derkyl began his career at Big 4 accounting firm in the audit practice. Willing to explore opportunities outside of public accounting he began his entrepreneurship path forming Paton Bros LLC with his two brothers.  Starting off in the professional chapter organization as a public relations committee member and Secretary he has gotten deeper involved in NABA NNJ currently holding positions as Public Relations Co-Chair, Treasurer, Student Members Services Director.  Derkyl is born and raised in Jersey City, NJ where he is active in is community serving as member of the Finance committee at  Marist High School (alumni), mentor with Student Partner Alliance, community workout group.  Outside of NABA and community involvement he competes in amateur boxing and enjoys basketball.

Immediate Past President, Robert Young

 Robert G. Young, CPA has over 15 years of experience in the Accounting profession. He currently serves as the Controller of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in New York, NY where he oversees all aspects of Accounting and Finance for the organization. Prior to working at EDF, Robert was an Assistant Controller at Tradeweb Markets, LLC, an auditor at KPMG and an internal auditor at Quest Diagnostics. Robert’s career did not begin in the accounting profession. Upon graduating high school worked six years in construction while putting himself through college in the evenings graduating from Rutgers, University College and School of Management – Newark with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. A few months after graduation, he passed the Certified Public Accountants exam. Robert completed his graduate studies at Rutgers Business School where he earned his Executive MBA in May of 2014. Robert is a longtime Member of NABA North New Jersey, where he held several positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Director of Corporate Relations and Chair of various committees. Robert grew up East Orange, NJ and currently resides in Dunellen with his wife and two children. Robert has been an active member in the communities where he has lived, most notably as a coach for both little league baseball and youth football.
